WAIT ON THE LORD

Wait on the LORD; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen you heart; wait, I say, on the LORD!
Psalm 27:14
We spend much of our life waiting. We may be actively engaged in various worthwhile pursuits while we are waiting, but they serve to profitably fill the time until what we are waiting for comes to pass. A bride and groom are waiting for the day of their wedding. They are working, making plans, and preparing while they wait. An expectant woman is waiting for the birth of her child. She engages in many activities, some of which are directly preparatory and others which are part of her regular routine. The people of God have waited for Him in various ways for centuries. From the first utterance of the gospel in Genesis the people of faith waited for Christ to appear. The whole of the Old Testament is anticipatory of the coming of Christ. David had personal relationship with God that meant he was waiting for God for various things. He was waiting for God to deliver him from his enemies. He was waiting for God to fulfill His promises to him. He was, waiting for God to strengthen his heart and the heart of anyone who reads this Psalm. This was not an inactive waiting. He engaged in all the things that were required of him. In the midst of those activities he was waiting on God to strengthen his heart as He had done before. We wait on God to strengthen our hearts as well. We hope in the same Christ David did. We work while we wait. We look to Christ to intervene and give us strength of heart to follow Him.
Great God of Wonders,
we rejoice that You will fulfill all Your promises to us.
We praise You that they shall not be ashamed,
who wait for You.
