Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.
Matthew 17:1-2
God gave those who would become the foremost witnesses of Christ some remarkable experiences with Him. These experiences would become a portion of the foundation from which they could speak authoritatively regarding Him. The incident before us is the Transfiguration. Peter, James and John were eyewitnesses of this event. In the narration, recorded in three of the gospels, Christ changes in appearance to a glorified version of Himself. For our purposes, let us consider that these three evangelists each present this as a sober fact of history. It is something which simply occurred in the experience of Peter, James and John. As such, we do not need to attempt to explain it away, or relegate it to being some psychological mass delusion. Part of accepting Who Christ is, and what He came to do is recognizing that he did miraculous things. His transfiguration is another one of those miracles. John would later see him in a similar way and record it in the first chapter of Revelation. We believe in Christ as the Son of God Who reveals Himself to us in whatever form most suits His purpose.
Our Glorious Living Christ,
we rejoice in the ways You reveal Yourself to us.
We praise You that every revelation,
gives us better insight into Your Person and Your work.
