I WILL RAISE HIM UP

And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
John 6:40
Christ is the Master of the categorical statement. Our whole text is one. For our purpose today we will concentrate on one portion of it. Christ says of those who believe in Him, ‘I will raise him up at the last day.’ This is an authoritative statement regarding the resurrection. It is by no means the only instance when He affirms it. He used almost the same phraseology in His previous remark. When He spoke to the sister of Lazarus He said, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?’ Paul, in writing of the last day says, ‘For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.’ Paul writes extensively about the resurrection in I Corinthians 15, as does John in Revelation 20. These abound with confirmations of the resurrection of the last day. Why does this matter? It matters because we will be part of it. Christ will raise His people from the dead. We have His word He will. Therefore our confidence in Him is for things far beyond our present circumstances or even the end of our current mode of existence. The resurrection is coming and Christ will raise us on the last day.
Our Glorious God and our Savior,
we rejoice that You are
the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
We praise You that You will keep all Your promises.
