Who is she who looks forth as the morning, fair as the moon, clear as the sun, awesome as an army with banners?

Song Of Solomon 6:10

Love transforms us. In the verses preceding our text the Bridegroom describes the Bride in glowing terms. He enumerates her qualities with graphic language. He has spent time contemplating her beauty and is quite taken with her. Our text is His summary statement. How is it that this humbly sun-kissed shepherdess has become so striking as to bear the description, ‘fair as the moon, clear as the sun, awesome as an army with banners?’ The answer lies in her love relationship with her Bridegroom. He has loved her, and His love bestowed upon her has transformed her into someone quite majestic, striking, and captivating. She is a most exceptional version of herself. This is the effect that Christ has upon His people. He has loved us before we ever loved Him. He has chosen us, set His love upon us and redeemed us. He has elevated us from our humble, meager beginnings. He has robed us in His Own righteousness. He has made us His Own peculiar people. Thus, He transforms us into what we could never be apart from our love relationship with Him. This is a demonstration of the power of the love of Christ. He has set His love upon us and that has made us ‘fair as the moon.’

Our Good and Kind God,
we rejoice that You have set Your love upon us.
We praise You for the transformation
it has wrought in us.
