EVEN SO, COME, LORD JESUS

He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.” Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
Revelation 22:20
All which God ever promises, comes to pass. Over the course of centuries, we have beheld Him fulfill promise after promise. His Character is unimpeachable. His testimony is, ‘God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?’ Down through the ages, the saints of God, in every generation, have clung to the promises of Jehovah and rejoiced when they came to pass ‘in the fullness of time.’ Christ, the Second Person of the Trinity, has made Personal promises. John, the Beloved Disciple, recorded the last promise written in the Scripture in the verse from which we take our text today. He quotes Christ by saying. ‘He who testifies to these things says, ‘Surely I am coming quickly.’ To this John responds, ‘Amen.’ He then adds the prayer of the hopeful, expectant saints of God. He prays with fervor, ‘Even so, come, Lord Jesus!’ Here is a prayer for us in every season. At the close of one year, even as the sunlight of the year fades into twilight, we cry out, ‘Even so, come, Lord Jesus!’ As a new year approaches, with everything that it may bring to us of happiness, or sadness, of success or failure, of joy or pain, we cry out, ‘Even so, come, Lord Jesus.’ He is the One for Whom we wait. He is the One in Whom is all of our expectations. With all the saints before us, and all the saints around us, let us cry together, ‘Even so, Come, Lord Jesus.’
Our Gracious and Loving God,
we look forward to the day when the faith shall be sight.
We praise You, that we shall see Him,
Whom having not seen, we love,
‘Even so, Come, Lord Jesus.’
