CHRIST OUR REDEMPTION

But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification and redemption.
1 Corinthians 1:30
Christ is our Redeemer and He is our redemption. He is our redeemer in that He purchases us from sin, bondage and condemnation with His Own blood. He is our redemption in that all He has done, is doing, and will do results not only in our redemption, but also of the whole of creation. What that means is that all that is wrong both with us and all around us Christ makes right. He is redemption in the narrowest as well as the broadest sense. It is for this reason that God His Father has exalted Him above all. The writer of Hebrews articulates this by saying, ‘God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.’ All the good God intends for fallen humanity comes to us by way of Christ. All redemption relates to Him. This includes everyone and everything that has or ever will be redeemed. Apart from Christ there is no redemption. Thus we have every reason to make much of Him. He was at creation as the Creator. He was the Lamb of the sacrifices. He was the Commander of the LORD’s hosts. He was the Messenger of Jehovah. He was the King, the Servant of the Lord, the Son of man and the Son of God. He is the Alpha, the Omega the Beginning, the End, the Root and Offspring of David and the Bright and Morning Star. All we are and have for now and for the future are wrapped up in Him. He is redemption.
Gracious Master and our God,
we rejoice at Your redemptive work.
We praise You that You ultimately
will restore all creation.
